AETI Tank Removal Services
One of the most concerning and costly environmental issues for home owners is leaking home heating oil tank.
Property values can be adversely affected by the existence of leaking oil tanks and undiscovered leaks can release hundred or thousands of gallons of fuel oil into soil and groundwater in which case the leaking tank owner is responsible for any site assessment and corrective action mandated by regulatory agencies.
Banks and lending institutions require that heating oil tanks be tested for leaks prior to real estate transfer or refinancing as part of the disclosure policy. Evidence of contamination or leaks may prevent property transfer.
Older, unprotected, bare steel tanks are prone to oxidation (rusting) resulting in rapid deterioration, especially in regions where groundwater level is relatively shallow. Unprotected steel tanks have a life expectancy of approximately 15 years in the ground and should be inspected for leaks annually and tanks older than 25 year should be replaced.
In order to protect your investment and the environment, AETI recommends proper removal or replacement of leaking tanks. AETI provides comprehensive services to deal with underground storage tanks including, but not limited to:
- Initial site assessment
- Tank removal
- Contaminated soil excavation, transportation and disposal
- Site characterization - plume delineation
- Corrective action
- Site closure
Investigating and cleaning up a contaminated property can often cost responsible parties thousands, and sometimes tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Realizing this, some States offer funding/financing programs to offset the high cost of environmental compliance. To find out more please refer to our Funding / Financing page.
To further assist home owners, AETI will finance projects which are eligible for state funding, so that there will be no up-front costs for the home owner, aside from the mandatory deductibles which the fund requires.
